While many fans were encouraged by the logo and promotional poster for Green Lantern that trickled out over the weekend, some were concerned by the accompanying phrase "Anyone Can Be Chosen."
Well, rest assured the Green Lantern Corps hasn't lowered its recruitment standards; that phrase is intended for potential merchandising licensees.
"That slogan was created with the purpose of showing our vendors the potential Green Lantern movie products have to reach a wide demographic, especially children," a representative for Warner Bros. Consumer Products told ComicBookMovie. "It should not be confused with the slogan for the film itself, which has yet to be released to the public."
So there you have it: The movie's Hal Jordan isn't just some schmuck who found the ring in a box of Cracker Jacks, or the lucky winner of some kind of cosmic lottery. As far as we know.
Directed by Martin Campbell, Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Jay O. Sanders, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi, Angela Bassett and Tim Robbins. The movie opens on June 17, 2011.
