In this feature I spotlight responses that amuse me for whatever reason by Mort Weisinger to letters fans wrote in to the Superman family of titles back in the 1950s and 1960s. Here is an archive of past installments.

Today we follow up from a previous installment to see how the great "Should Lois Lane be spanked?" debate in the Lois Lane letter columns continued a lot longer than I originally had thought...

A couple of years ago, I featured a debate in the Lois Lane columns over whether Superman should spank Lois Lane for her bad behavior. This was inspired by a story in Lois Lane #14 where Lois ends up getting spanked by one of Superman's robots when she sneaks into the Fortress of Solitude without Superman present...

Later, we learn that Superman knew of her plan all along and was just messing with her...

So incredibly not cool, Superman!

Anyhow, a reader, Anonymous3, wrote in to note that the debate kept going a lot longer than I had thought, extending all the way throughout 1961, including the following from Lois Lane #26, which has a bizarrely thought out response...

The future story reference never actually occurred.

This was followed the next issue with...

And finally, in the winner for "Creepiest letter sent to the Lois Lane comic book about spanking," we have in Lois Lane #30...

You could easily argue that these letters are all fake and I would believe you, but even if that were the case, that doesn't make these letters any less bizarre! They were still printed in a comic book for kids in 1961. Weeeeird.

That's it for this installment!

Thanks to Anonymous3 for the suggestion! If anyone else has a suggestion for a good Mort Weisinger reply to an old school fan letter, drop me a line at bcronin@comicbookresources.com
