Fans eager for the return of Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk to Marvel's Netflix dramas will have to look beyond the upcoming "Defenders" miniseries.

The actor, who served as the primary antagonist in the first season of "Daredevil" before returning briefly in Season Two, recently hinted that viewers will see Kingpin again. However, he now makes it clear it won't be in the eagerly anticipated crossover.

Responding Saturday night on Twitter to a fan who asked, "Any chance of you being on the Defenders?," D'Onofrio responded in the most straightforward way possible:

Set to premiere late next year on Netflix, the eight-episode "Defenders" brings together Charlie Cox's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage and Finn Jones' Iron Fist to face a villain played by Sigourney Weaver.Élodie Yung will also reprise her "Daredevil" role as Elektra, joined by such supporting characters as Simone Missick's Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page, Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple and Jessica Henwick's Colleen Wing. D'Onofrio wasn't mentioned in the flurry of casting announcements, apparently with good reason.

Netflix announced in July that it has ordered a third season of "Daredevil," but it's unlikely to air until 2018 because its 2017 Marvel schedule is filled by "Iron Fist," "The Punisher" and "The Defenders."

D'Onofrio revealed in September that, unlike his big-screen counterparts, he didn't have to commit to a long-term deal with Marvel. “Like, I didn’t have to sign my life away at all,” he said. “When Jeph [Loeb, Marvel's head of television] tells me there’s something coming up and if I’m available, I’ll be there. And because it’s written so well, I’m going to show up.”
