The Venom creative team of Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman are forming a new Substack imprint, along with announcing the first title to publish under the banner.
Kids Love Chains Press is the name of Cates and Stegman's imprint, with their new creator-owned comic going by the title Vanish. One of the many goals is the imprint is to allow the duo to share their creative process with fans and subscribers, which includes "blogs about our daily work life, video chats between the two of us breaking story, to scripts, to early sketches and then inks! Colors! Letters!" There will also be Substack exclusive variants. Cates noted in his introductory message that he is not leaving Marvel, though subscribers will get to hear his pitches for books he never got the chance to do, such as The Crow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Star Wars.
"Since I was young, I wanted to create something new and have people read it. And here we are!" Stegman said regarding Vanish. "A few months back Donny and I sat in my studio and plotted this thing out and it freaking rules. It’s about magic and superheroes and... Well, how about I just show you some art? Here you go!"
Cates also revealed he had two more comic announcements to make. First up is a six-issue underwater horror/western comic called Flood, which teams Cates with Megan Hutchison-Cates, Dee Cuniffe and John J. Hill. The second announcement is the return of The One You Feed with Dylan Burnett and John J. Hill.
Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman dropped a cryptic teaser for an upcoming project in June, which may be tied to their new Substack imprint. Other creators to make the leap to Substack include James Tynion IV and Ryan Ottley.
