Star Wars fans shouldn't give up hope of the Lando series happening, according to Lando Calrissian himself, Donald Glover.

Glover updated fans on the Solo: A Star Wars Story spinoff show's status during a recent interview with GQ. "I would love to play Lando again," he said. "It's a fun time to be him. It just has to be the right -- it just needs to be the right way to do it... I'm not interested in doing anything that's just going to be, like, a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I'd much rather, like, you know, spend time with people that I, like, enjoy. So [Lando] just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be. I mean, like, Lando is definitely somebody I'd like to hang out with. So, yeah, we're talking about it. That's as much as I say."

Lucasfilm announced it was adding a Lando series to its slate of Disney+ Star Wars programming in 2020, however, the project's development has seemingly stalled since then. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy nevertheless continues to insist the Solo: A Star Wars Story spinoff is still in development. Kennedy confirmed in May 2022 that talks between Lucasfilm and Glover regarding Lando were ongoing, while also admitting that the show doesn't necessarily rank among the production company's top priorities. The Lucasfilm boss also made it clear that remarks she made about future Star Wars projects not recasting legacy roles didn't apply to Lando, despite Glover portraying a character originally played by Billy Dee Williams.

That said, Kennedy walked back some of these comments days later, suggesting that the dialogue between Lucasfilm and Glover wasn't as active as she'd previously implied. Responding to a question about Lando's progress, Kennedy stated the production had ground to a halt, partly due to its lead actor's full schedule. "[Glover's] the one that holds all the cards here," she said. "But there's no movement [on Lando]. I will say that honestly. But it's not for lack of trying. It's just that he's a very busy guy... He's got another series [he's starring in], and I think one other thing, and then he'll come our way. So [we're] patiently waiting."

While Glover is apparently in no rush to revisit the Star Wars universe, several of his Solo: A Star Wars Story co-stars are on the record regarding their eagerness to return. This includes Han Solo actor Alden Ehrenreich, who recently said he would be "very happy" to play the iconic smuggler's younger self again if invited to do so.

The Lando Disney+ series does not yet have a release date.
