Dominic Cooper Cast As Howard Stark In Captain America

A day after confirming Tommy Lee Jones' role in Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel Studios has officially announced that Dominic Cooper will play a young Howard Stark.

Stark, who was portrayed in Iron Man 2 by Mad Men's John Slattery, is a brilliant inventor who worked on numerous government projects dating back to World War II. We may presume that one of those is the creation of Captain America's shield.

Cooper joins Jones, Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Toby Jones, Stanley Tucci and Neal McDonough in the Joe Johnston-directed film. The 32-year-old actor has appeared in Mamma Mia! and An Education, and will next be seen in in the adaptation of Posy Simmonds' graphic novel Tamara Drewe.

Captain America: The First Avenger, which opens on July 22, 2011, centers on the early days of the Marvel Universe, when Steve Rogers volunteers for the experimental program that transforms him into the super soldier known as Captain America.
