Months after Star Wars: The Last Jedi star Kelly Marie Tran was forced off social media by harassment, her co-stars continue to speak up in support of her.

Domhnall Gleeson, who plays General Hux, sat down with HeyUGuys to promote his new film The Little Stranger, and the conversation inevitably turned to the online backlash experienced by Tran.

"People having an opinion about the film is absolutely fine," he said. "You pay your money and you're allowed to have an opinion, and you're allowed to like it or dislike it, whatever you want. The stuff with Kelly was, like, bullshit. That's a different thing all together."

Gleeson continued, "Those people are just morons. Those people are assholes. That's the difference. That's a different level of stuff. You don't buy that when you buy your ticket."

Describing the essay Tran wrote last month for The New York Times as "amazing," Gleeson added, "I've got huge respect for her. I thought she dealt with it as classily as an unclassy situation called for."

Other Last Jedi cast members and crew have been similarly vocal since Tran, who plays Rose Tico, distanced herself from social media. Director Rian Johnson, along with co-stars John Boyega and Mark Hamill, are among those who have spoken up in support of her. Boyega's sentiments echoed the thoughts Gleeson has expressed, with one of his June tweets reading, “If you don’t like Star Wars or the characters understand that there are decisions makers and harassing the actors/ actresses will do nothing. You’re not entitled to politeness when your approach is rude. Even if you paid for a ticket!”

Directed by JJ Abrams, Star Wars: Episode IX stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. It is scheduled to open on Dec. 20, 2019.
