Dav Pilkey's Dog Man is coming to life as an animated film from Dreamworks.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Peter Hastings will direct the movie adaptation of the hit graphic novel series. Hastings is best known for writing '90s mainstays Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. This will serve as Pilkey's second team-up with Dreamworks, who also adapted his Captain Underpants series into both a film and a TV series. Hastings also wrote two episodes of that series.

“This is my second project based on Dav Pilkey's books and I'm very excited to take his funny, clever, emotional and ultimately inspirational Dog Man and make it move!” said Hastings “Not just by telling the story, but by absorbing and building on his great sensibility, bringing it to the screen with deep respect to his gazillion fans - 'cause I'm one of them.”

Dog Man follows the kid-friendly adventures of the titular hero, alongside his friends, Li’l Petey and 80-HD, collectively known as the Supa Buddies. The books have sold almost 40 million copies and all nine have been No. 1 bestsellers, making them some of the most popular graphic novels of all time. Scholastic will release the 10th book in the series, Dog Man: Mothering Heights, on March 23, 2021.
