In every installment of “If I Pass This Way Again,” we look at odd comic book plot points that were rarely (sometimes NEVER!) mentioned again after they were first introduced.

Reader Michael F. wrote in about a previous installment of this column where I discussed how Mephisto seems to own Rogue's soul. As Michael noted, it seems that Blade's soul might ALSO be held by someone else!

In 1993, Marvel did a crossover of their "Midnight Sons" series of titles. Dubbed "Midnight Massacre," it began in Nightstalkers #11, where Blade agrees to sell his soul to the Darkhold in exchange for helping him to rid the world of demons. However, that means also killing his friends!!

The covers for the event all had these black matted covers. They definitely stood out on the rack...

It's one of the lowest stakes crossovers of all-time, though, as in the final part, in Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance (Adam Kubert's last issue of the series), a spell just reverses everything and turns Blade back into himself (he was now a demonic being known as Switchblade) and everyone that Switchblade killed was brought back to life...

(These pages are part of an interesting thing that I'll show you all in another column in a little bit)

Okay, so everyone is back to the living and Blade is even bizarrely accepted back into the Nightstalkers. However, as noted in the next issue of Nightstalkers, Blade still doesn't have his soul!

This was then just never discussed again. Presumably Blade got his soul back at some point, but I really don't know when or how.

Okay, that's it for this installment! If anyone else has a suggestion of a plot point that was quickly ignored by everyone else, drop me a line at brianc@cbr.com!
