The new trailer for the upcoming sports-themed JRPG Dodgeball Academia explains the story behind the strange new game.
In the Lore Trailer, a narrator explains that the way of life for the eponymous academy began with the Hero's Dodgeball, "thrown with such force that it remains eternally spinning, generating the energy that propels our entire school." A remnant of the Great Dodgeball Wars, the Hero's Dodgeball has the ability to unlock the "Balltimate" power within students, granting them mystical powers. The narrator then invites prospective players to become the next great hero of Dodgeball Academia. Dodgeball Academia is set to release on Aug. 5.
Dodgeball Academia will follow new academy student Otto across eight episodes of gameplay. As Otto, players will form friendships and rivalries with their classmates, create the perfect dodgeball team with an eclectic group of classmates and explore and uncover the secrets of the academy itself. In addition to the main RPG story mode, the game will feature side quests and minigames, unique and action-packed challenge modes and the ability to take on your friends in local multiplayer.

Dodgeball Academia is a sports RPG game featuring rookie dodgeball student, Otto. In a world where dodgeball is life, players join Otto at the academy and train to become the ultimate dodgeball champion. Across eight episodes, players will forge friendships and create rivals, all in the name of developing the best dodgeball team. Level up Otto and develop a dynamic team across a vast and customizable party progression system. All the while, explore the vast Dodgeball Academia and uncover the long hidden truths that reside within the very walls of the academy.
Dodgeball Academia will release on Playstation 4, X-Box One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam and Humble Bundle on Aug. 5.
