Matt Smith will follow Doctor Who with a starring turn in the London musical adaptation of American Psycho. BBC News reports the Dec. 3-Jan. 25 production was nearly sold out mere hours after the actor's involvement was revealed.

The musical is based on Bret Easton Ellis' then-controversial 1991 novel about Patrick Bateman, a wealthy young Manhattan investment banker who leads a secret life as a serial killer. American Psycho was famously adapted in 2000 as a film starring Christian Bale.

Directed by Rupert Goold, the stage production features a book by playwright, screenwriter and comics scribe Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, Carrie) and music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik.

Smith, best known to audiences as the Eleventh Doctor, is no stranger to the London stage: He's previously appeared in such shows as The History Boys, That Face and Swimming With Sharks.
