"Doctor Who" alum Karen Gillan has joined the sprawling cast of "The Devil You Know," the HBO pilot co-written by "Orange Is the New Black" creator Jenji Kohan.

Deadline describes the project as "a provocative period drama" that explores the circumstances surrounding the infamous Salem Witch Trials. Eddie Izzard, Nadia Alexander and Ismenia Mendes were previously announced in starring roles.

Gillan, who starred last fall in the short-lived ABC comedy "Selfie," will play Jane Porter, youngest daughter of Israel Porter (Ewen Bremner of "Trainspotting" and "Snowpiercer" fame), patriarch of the powerful Porter clan.

"So excited to join this incredible cast," the "Guardians of the Galaxy" actress wrote on Twitter. "I am in awe of everyone."

Gillan and Bremner are joined by newly announced series regulars Ever Carradine, Damien Molony, Julian Rhind Tutt, Matthew James Thomas, Nigel Lindsay, Hannah Nordberg, Naian Gonzalez Norvind and Zawe Ashton. Will Pullen, Kate Nash, Seana Kofoed, Mary Mouser, Beanie Feldstein and Mia Barron will have recurring roles.

Co-written by Bruce Miller and Tracy Miller, the pilot begins production this spring in Boston.
