Jodie Whittaker might only have a few Doctor Who episodes left before she regenerates, but the Thirteenth Doctor is about to receive even more adventures in podcast form.

The official Doctor Who website announced that Episode 1 of a ten-part podcast series called Doctor Who Redacted will drop on April 17, the same day as the 2022 special episode "Legend of the Sea Devils." Instead of being directly Doctor-centric, Redacted follows "three broke university drop-outs" and podcast co-hosts Cleo Proctor (Charlie Craggs), Abby McPhail (Lois Chimimba) and Shawna Thompson (Holly Quin-Ankrah), whose series "The Blue Box Files" analyzes the reoccurrence of a mysterious object (i.e. the Doctor's TARDIS) throughout historical records. However, Cleo, Abby and Shawna soon become the universe's best chance at survival, thanks ironically to poor viewership numbers, after getting "caught in a supernatural conspiracy as they learn that everyone who’s ever met the Doctor is disappearing and being forgotten."

In addition to Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, Craggs, Chimimba, and Quin-Ankrah's characters will meet some notable allies from past Doctor Who stories. These include UNIT Chief Scientific Officer Kate Stewart, scientist Petronella Osgood, Silurian Madame Vastra, and The Sarah Jane Adventures' Rani Chandra. Also joining the cast is Jacob Hawley as Cleo's brother Jordan, who is amongst those mysteriously "redacted" by the Doctor's newest foe.

Whittaker debuted as the Thirteenth Doctor in 2018, becoming the first woman to portray the iconic Time Lord since Doctor Who began nearly sixty years ago. She's played the Doctor across three seasons, sharing a record with predecessors Peter Capaldi's and Matt Smith's Twelfth and Eleventh Doctors, respectively. However, instead of the modern Who's 13-episode series run, Whittaker's Doctor had two ten-episode series, followed by a six-part mini-seres Doctor Who Flux. The latest series saw the Doctor and longtime ally Yasmin Khan work together with multiple parties across space and time, including new companion Dan Lewis, to stop a threat from her past consuming the entire universe. Whittaker also voiced the Thirteenth Doctor in multiple video games, with the most recent one, Doctor Who: Edge of Reality, pairing her up with a returning David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor.

"Legend of the Sea Devils" marks the titular reptilian Earth natives' return to Doctor Who for the first time since the Third Doctor era. The spring special will be followed up by Whittaker's final episode, for which the release date is not yet known. So far, no details have come out yet regarding the choice of Whittaker's replacement. It was rumored earlier this year that Hugh Grant was in consideration to play the Fourteenth Doctor, but the actor has since debunked that claim.

Doctor Who Redacted will be available on BBC Sounds starting April 17.
