The Thirteenth Doctor is here!
During the live broadcast of the soccer World Cup, the BBC released the first teaser trailer of the upcoming Season 11 of Doctor Who, which features the highly-anticipated debut of Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor.
While the teaser trailer is light on actual footage of the sci-fi series, it instead features the arrival of Whittaker's Doctor in London while the entire country is watching the World Cup. Hints of time travel are on full display as the Doctor materializes in the present, ready to embark on her newest, fiercest adventure yet.
With the tagline "The Universe is calling," Doctor Who is giving us a simple hint at how epic this bold new direction will be. As she did in her first appearance in last Christmas' "Twice Upon a Time," Whittaker's Doctor appears with a smile on her face, signalling a sense of joy at the adventures of discovery that lie ahead.
This marks the BBC's second big Doctor Who announcement during a worldwide sport event. The English network first made the announcement that Whittaker would be the first female actress to play The Doctor during last year's Wimbledon tennis tournament. Now, almost a year later, we finally have a first look at the beginning of her story.
Doctor Who stars Jodie Whittaker as the latest iteration of the titular Time Lord. Whittaker will be joined by co-stars Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill in a season that will be spearheaded by new series showrunner, Chris Chibnall. The highly-anticipated Season 11 lands this fall.
