BBC America has released the official trailer for the upcoming Doctor Who holiday special "Revolution of the Daleks," which is slated to air on the network on New Year's Day.

"Revolution of the Daleks" rejoins Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor following her incarceration in a high-security alien prison during the Doctor Who Season 12 finale, "The Timeless Children." In the holiday special, Yaz, Ryan and Graham are forced to carry on without her back on Earth. Things turn even more bleak when a nefarious plan involving a Dalek comes into play -- so much so that even an assist from John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness might not be enough to win the day on its own. "Stay strong," The Doctor tells herself in the trailer. "People are waiting for you."

"We've crammed this year's Doctor Who special with an explosion of extraordinary acting talent," Doctor Who executive producer Chris Chibnall said as part of BBC America's official release. "Where else would you get British acting royalty, a globally renowned U.S. screen star, an (inter)national treasure of stage and screen and one of Britain's hottest young actors -- just in the guest cast! Put those together with Jodie Whittaker, Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole (and Daleks! Did I mention Daleks!) -- and you get a cast to be exterminated for. And things will explode. Promise."

"Revolution of the Daleks" stars Jodie Whittaker, Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, John Barrowman, Chris Noth, Harriet Walter and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett. The Doctor Who holiday special airs on BBC America on Friday, Jan. 1, 2021 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
