WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Doctor Who: Missy #1 by Jody Houser, Roberta Ingranata, Enrica Eren Angiolini, Shari Chankhamma and Comicraft's Richard Starkings, on sale now.

The next big Doctor Who comic story kicks off in Doctor Who: Missy #1, as the fan-favorite female version of the Master takes center stage. The character first appeared in the television series' Season 8 alongside Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor, and she continued to appear sporadically in Seasons 9 and 10 as well. Although Missy story came to an end in the Season 10 finale, her adventures are further expanded upon in this new comic series, which finds the character on a mission to find a fragment of the Key to Time.

But in order to do that, she needs help. Namely, Missy needs the help of a previous incarnation of herself -- a version of the Master who she finds locked up in an important location from the television series' Matt Smith era: the Stormcage Containment Facility.

The Stormcage Containment Facility first appeared in the Doctor Who Season 5 episode "The Pandorica Opens." Located in the 52nd century, this supermax prison debuted as the facility where fan-favorite character River Song was locked up for her most heinous crime: killing the Doctor. The Stormcage prison also appeared in Season 6, and it was mentioned on various occasions, most recently in Season 11's "Rosa." Despite River Song being its prisoner, she would often break out whenever the situation called for it. The containment facility is a crucial part of the River Song saga, which itself is central to the Matt Smith era of Doctor Who.

And now, the prison makes a return in Doctor Who: Missy #1. Here, the female version of the Master infiltrates the facility by posing as the Doctor to break out one of Stormcage's inmates. It turns out that her previous self, the first incarnation of the Master, was locked up in Stormcage following a confrontation with the Third Doctor. After all, the high-security prison is the most logical place to have an adversary as dangerous as the Master locked up.

As Missy walks the halls of Stormcage, the prison is just like it appeared on the television show. Plus, we see even more of the facility's prisoners, as Missy comes across several other notable villains from Doctor Who history such as the Silence, the Cybermen and the Skithra.

When Missy finds the Master, she continues to pose as the Doctor and while she breaks him out, the issue ends with the two locked in a fencing duel. Therefore, while Missy has freed the Master, she has yet to properly escape Stormcage with her quarry. That certainly sounds like a challenge, but if River Song was able to escape before, it's something two versions of the Master should have no trouble achieving. That is, if they don't come across River first.
