WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Doctor Who New Year's Day holiday special, "Revolution of the Daleks," which premiered Jan. 1 on BBC America.

In the final moments of Doctor Who's twelfth season, Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor was arrested by the Judoon and locked up in a cosmic prison. Now, as the New Year's Day holiday special, "Revolution of the Daleks," begins, the Doctor has been in prison for years and fighting hard to keep her spirits up. But she's far from alone in this prison, as the Doctor is moved from her cell to the prison's main floor on a daily basis, where she comes across plenty of familiar alien monsters.

While in general lockup, the Doctor first comes across a Weeping Angel, which she has affectionately named "Angela." The Weeping Angels are frightening monsters that first appeared in the Season 3 episode "Blink." They are creatures of living stone who are only able to move when no one is looking at them. This ability is on display in this brief appearance as Angela moves from the middle of her cell to the wall, screeching at the Doctor when the Time Lord isn't looking.

The appearance of classic fan-favorite monsters continue from there, as the Doctor walks by two other classic aliens: the Ood and the Sycorax. Both of these aliens clashed with David Tennant's Tenth Doctor when the actor's tenure as the immortal Time Lord began in Season 2.

What's more, once the Doctor finally arrives at her cell, we can see that her neighbor is a mighty Pting, a tiny and kind of adorable creature with an insatiable appetite and the ability to eat as much as it wants. The Doctor first went up against the Pting in the Season 11 episode "The Tsuranga Conundrum." But while it can eat anything, it appears as if the Pting's cell is made to resist even its gargantuan appetite.

Finally, the Doctor comes across another neighbor fans will recognize: the Silence. The Silence had a prominent role in Season 6 of Doctor Who, where they clashed with the Eleventh Doctor and his companions. These creatures are unsettling to say the least, as people are only aware of them when they look directly at them. Once they look away, they forget all about the Silence, even if it is still standing behind them. One of the Silence is locked up next to the Doctor and, as she cheekily says when she sees it, she forgot it was there.

The Doctor doesn't go toe-to-toe with any of these five villains, but their return is still incredibly noteworthy because it essentially creates a small tour of some of the Doctor's fan-favorite foes. It's a great nod for longtime fans of the series, and a fun series of callbacks to villains we haven't seen on the series in a long time.

"Revolution of the Daleks" stars Jodie Whittaker, Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, John Barrowman, Chris Noth, Harriet Walter and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett. The Doctor Who holiday special aired on BBC America on Friday, Jan. 1.
