A gaming insider revealed Fortnite is scheduled to cross timelines with the beloved Doctor Who series.

According to Insider Gaming, trusted Fortnite leaker FNBRintel alleged the online battle royale would host a collaboration with the Doctor Who franchise. FNBRintel claimed the event wouldn't reach the live servers for another several months, with the insider noting the crossover might also launch as part of a wider celebration of Doctor Who's upcoming 60th anniversary. They additionally revealed the collaboration will go beyond the level of Fortnite's previous Doctor Who event, with FNBRintel stating that participants will be rewarded with more than just a cosmetic spray.

Fortnite previously held a Doctor Who crossover event in its Creative Mode, wherein players could complete challenges on a Doctor Who-inspired island. FNBRintel did not specify if the island will be returning for the rumored future collaboration between the two franchises, or if developers planned to implement a different mode to better commemorate the BBC sci-fi series' 60 years of cultural influence. They similarly did not reveal details regarding the new cosmetics for the event. Despite the vagueness surrounding the Doctor Who and Fortnite crossover, another known Fortnite leaker ShiinaBR supported FNBRintel's claims, with ShiinaBR further revealing their own sources corroborated the rumors of an upcoming collaboration.

ShiinaBR also previously hinted Fortnite might be planning a crossover event with J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series, after the leaker found an easter egg that allegedly referenced one of the most famous locations in the franchise. ShiinaBR revealed a sandcastle found in Fortnite's in-game beach bore a striking resemblance to Helm's Deep, which was where Lord of the Rings' iconic Battle of Hornburg took place. They also noted startling similarities between the sand castle and artistic depictions of Helm's Deep, such as both castles' high walls and the shape of the landscape surrounding them.

As for Doctor Who, the beloved sci-fi show's upcoming 60th-anniversary special episodes will see the return of fan-favorite duo the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble, played by actors David Tennant and Catherine Tate, respectively. Tennant previously revealed their return to the franchise happened "a little by accident." Tennant claimed the idea started when he, Tate and Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies rewatched the series and pondered about returning for a "one-off." When Davies was later hired to head another season of Doctor Who, he once again broached the topic with Tennant and Tate, who both accepted his offer.

Fortnite is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, macOS and PC. Doctor Who's special 60th-anniversary episodes are scheduled to premiere in November 2023.
