David Tennant is back in action in his classic costume on the set of Doctor Who.

Twitter user _PigginTeaBreak posted three photos from the set of Doctor Who on May 16, all featuring former series star David Tennant in his classic outfit as the 10th Doctor, which consists of a dark suit and loose tie. Along with Tennant is fan-favorite companion, Donna Noble, famously portrayed by Catherine Tate. Also present in the photos is the current Doctor's T.A.R.D.I.S., who has been played by Jodie Whitaker since Season 11.

It was recently confirmed that both Tate and Tennant would be returning to their respective roles for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary. Though details surrounding their reprisals are still vague, the two actors are reportedly already filming scenes for their return to the franchise.

"They're back!" said showrunner Russel T. Davies in a statement. "And it looks impossible - first, we announce a new Doctor, and then an old Doctor, along with the wonderful Donna, what on earth is happening? Maybe this is a missing story. Or a parallel world. Or a dream, or a trick, or a flashback. The only thing I can confirm is that it’s going to be spectacular, as two of our greatest stars reunite for the battle of a lifetime."

This announcement came shortly after the news that breakout Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa had been cast as the series' 14th Doctor. "Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those TARDIS keys in seconds," Davies said of the actor. "It's an honour to work with him, and a hoot, I can't wait to get started." Gatwa has starred alongside Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, and Gillian Anderson on Sex Education since the show premiered on Netflix in January 2019.

Tennant starred as the 10th Doctor from "The Christmas Invasion" in 2005, up until his last regular appearance in 2010's two-part special, "The End of Time." Tennant later returned for Doctor Who's 50th-anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor." The special saw the 10th Doctor work alongside Matt Smith's 11th Doctor, as well as John Hurt's War Doctor, who was himself a variant of Paul McGann's 8th Doctor from 1996's Doctor Who film.

Doctor Who's 60th anniversary will mark the first time Tennant and Whitaker have appeared together on screen. Whitaker has starred as the 13th Doctor since 2017, taking over for Peter Capaldi after his exit from the show. Whitaker announced in July 2021 that she and current showrunner Chris Chibnall would be departing the series with three specials which will start airing in fall 2022.

Doctor Who Season 14 is expected to debut in 2023.
