Some new Marvel Studios concept art has surfaced that depicts an early version of the Zealots from "Doctor Strange."

The unused concept art, which can be seen at ComicBookMovie, is skeletal and ethereal and shows the Zealot almost look like the physical manifestation of death.

In "Doctor Strange," the Zealots are a group of dark magic users led by Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen of "Hannibal"), who's driven by a desire for eternal life -- something he believes the demon Dormammu will bring him. This art is a far cry from what appeared in the film, where the Zealots are depicted with purple ringing their eyes and cracked skin instead of a skeletal, deathly look.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, "Doctor Strange" stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a brilliant surgeon whose life is forever changed by a career-ending car accident. When traditional medicine fails him, he searches for healing, and hope, in a mysterious enclave that he soon learns is at the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces determined to destroy reality. Strange is forced to choose between his life of fortune or a new calling to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence.

In theaters now, the film also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, Benjamin Bratt, Scott Adkins and Tilda Swinton.
