The following article contains spoilers from Doctor Strange #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Doctor Strange may have been brought back to life, but it seems like someone is trying to put him in grave danger again. In Doctor Strange #1 (by Jed McKay, Pasqual Ferry, Matt Hollingsworth, and VC's Cory Petit), the titular character went about making up for lost time, helping people across the Marvel Universe alongside his wife, Clea. However, the story concluded with his old foe, Aggamon, being killed by an unseen attacker, but not before he claimed that Strange was the murderer.

While it is unlikely that Doctor Strange would be so foolish as to provoke a war like this, it's obvious that someone is trying to frame him. If they're successful, it could have dire consequences, both for Doctor Strange and the Earth as a whole. For all his flaws, Aggamon was the Sorcerer Supreme of his dimension, and if this attack is seen as an act of aggression, then it could trigger a multiversal war.

Marvel Has More Than One Sorcerer Supreme

Doctor Strange Threatens Aggamon with Clea

It is important to recall that the title of Sorcerer Supreme is not limited to any single person or dimension. Throughout the history of the primary Marvel Universe, there have been many and sometimes even two at the same time. However, this rule also extends to the rest of the multiverse, as magic is a constant force no matter what reality one finds themselves in. An excellent example of this is Clea, who is the Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension in addition to Earth.

Likewise, Aggamon was the Sorcerer Supreme of the Purple Dimension. As such, it stands to reason that any outer planes or connected dimensions have their own version of the position and with it, a likely code of conduct. This is perhaps why there was no direct conflict between Doctor Strange and Aggamon. Despite the former having plenty of reason to want to attack the latter, who was partially responsible for his death, he refrained from doing so.

Someone is Framing Doctor Strange

Someone attacks Aggamon in the Purple Dimension

Unfortunately, it seems as if someone wants to finish this fight. Aggamon was killed by an unseen figure at the end of the issue, and his accusation of it being Strange implies that either he or his wife was responsible. The latter belief seems more likely from a public perspective. Clea was barely able to contain her rage when Aggamon revealed himself, and as such would be the perfect scapegoat for someone to start a war between the realms.

Such a war though would be catastrophic for the planet. While any Sorcerer Supreme is the greatest practitioner of magic in their home dimension, they would still be overwhelmed by the combined powers of multiple sorcerers. Imagine what would happen if this triggered a war and countless other sorcerers attacked Doctor Strange. The likely conflict would certainly rope in other heroes to protect their friend, causing a massive amount of collateral damage. Needless to say, Doctor Strange needs to get a handle on this situation before it escalates.
