The MCU got its token wizard character when Doctor Stephen Strange joined the crew in his own movie, and he is quickly establishing himself as a central figure to the entire franchise. He is slowly becoming Peter Parker's new mentor, and he has another solo movie in the works. He's known for his breathtaking magic, witty personality, and aloof attitude.

Doctor Strange is rather different than his Avenger compatriots, but he is roughly similar to magical characters in other realms of fiction, including the vast world of anime. Countless fantasy or supernatural anime characters are on Doctor Strange's wavelength in terms of abilities, fighting style, personality, and more, and they'd love to meet him.

10 Kisuke Urahara Is Karakura Town's Local Wizard (Bleach)

Anime Bleach Kisuke Urahara Lifting His Hat To Look Up

A few characters in the hit series Bleach could be categorized as wizards, though they don't use that term themselves. Kisuke Urahara is best known for his use of advanced science and expert-level kido spells in combat, making him a scientist/wizard hybrid with a sword. That's a powerful package.

Like Doctor Strange, Kisuke can use mind-bending magical effects to get the edge on his foes, and he can outwit just about anyone while also delivering one-liners. He's also a mentor to Ichigo Kurosaki.

9 Hachigen Ushoda Is Another Kido Wizard (Bleach)

Hachigen Ushoda is one of the eight Visoreds, and he is similar to Kisuke Urahara in many ways, including the fact they're both Soul Society outcasts who take up residence in Karakura Town. Hachigen isn't as chatty or goofy as Kisuke, but he's still quite brilliant.

Hachigen could wield kido spells with ease since he was once the Kido Corps' second-in-command. In fact, he was the one who defeated the seemingly unbeatable Barragan Luisenbarn, by teleporting his rotting hand inside Barragan's body to destroy him from within.

8 Satoru Gojo Is Eccentric & All-Powerful (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Gojo Satoru's eyes from Jujutsu Kaisen

Satoru Gojo the sorcerer is often compared to Kakashi Hatake, but he also has some common ground with Doctor Strange. Both of them are real scene-stealers with colorful personalities and overwhelming magical abilities, though Satoru acts more immaturely than Doctor Strange does.

Satoru's "magic," or curse, allows him to create infinity within his domain or control curse energy on an atomic level. He can blow away even the strongest curses with ease, dazzling Yuji each time he does it. That's how Spider-Man sees Doctor Strange.

7 Merlin Loves Magic Of All Kinds (The Seven Deadly Sins)

Merlin using her Sacred Treasure and Infinity Seven Deadly Sins

Merlin is one of the Seven Deadly Sins, but she's not a brute-force fighter like Diane and Ban are. Instead, Merlin is a researcher and magic user like Kisuke and Doctor Strange, and this makes her a highly effective support character during battles against the Ten Commandments and other foes.

Merlin has a spell for practically any situation, including unbreakable cubes to contain a person, and she can use magic both offensively and defensively. She can also augment her allies to make them even more effective in battle.

6 Rimuru Tempest Has So Many Abilities (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)

rimuru tempest with a fist

Rimuru Tempest the isekai hero often acts easygoing around his peers, as opposed to the upright and self-important Doctor Strange, but he can become quite serious if the situation calls for it. Like Doctor Strange, Rimuru can use an astonishing variety of spells in battle, and many of his abilities are passive and have a constant effect.

Among other abilities, Rimuru can analyze an opponent's magical powers, teleport items and people, create blades of water, conjure steel spider threads, shoot fire, absorb enemy attacks, and use telepathy, and he is still acquiring more and more powers. Even Doctor Strange would be a bit jealous by now.

5 Levy McGarden Researches Magic All The Time (Fairy Tail)

Most Fairy Tail characters are wizards of some sort or other, though not all of them are traditional, cloak-and-staff types like Doctor Strange. Wizards such as Erza Scarlet and Gildarts Clive are fairly different from Doctor Strange, but the bookish Levy McGarden is much more similar to him.

Levy is a smart and well-read girl who can research anything she needs to know before or during battle, then use her Solid Script magic to create a tailor-made solution for the problem at hand. This makes her an excellent support fighter for the Fairy Tail guild.

4 Mavis Vermillion Is All About Trickery (Fairy Tail)

Fairy Tail_ Mavis Vermilion

Mavis Vermillion, Fairy Tail's founder, is another Fairy Tail character who overlaps strongly with Doctor Strange. She's more cheerful and outgoing than Doctor Strange is, but otherwise, they're cut from the same cloth, including their fondness for arcane research and study. Mavis has read just about every book there is.

Mavis is a smart and wily wizard who relies on illusions rather than brute force to win the day, which is something Doctor Strange might do, and she has the encyclopedic knowledge to understand and defeat any foe she might come across. No one can outwit her on the battlefield.

3 Itachi Uchiha Is Cunning & Aloof (Naruto)

Although Itachi Uchiha was a villain during most events of Naruto, he was still a hero at heart, just like Doctor Strange, even if he didn't always act like it. Itachi was aloof and dignified, like Doctor Strange, and would only help people if he saw a good reason to. Often, he didn't.

Itachi, like Doctor Strange, relies on advanced arcane abilities and trickery to fight rather than brute force, mainly cunning genjutsu and the many powers of the Sharingan eye, not to mention conventional jutsu such as the Fireball technique. He even wears a wizard-like cloak in battle.

2 Scar's Brother Dove Deep Into Alchemy Research (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

scar and his brother fullmetal alchemist

Not much is known of Scar's brother, not even his name, but it is known that he has worked hard to find the deeper truths of alchemy and alkahestry. He wasn't much of a fighter; instead, Scar's brother was a dedicated researcher who could decipher all sorts of transmutation circles, arcane symbols, and far more. This is Doctor Strange territory.

It's unclear how good Scar's brother would be in a fight, but he would likely use defensive alchemy or tricks to escape the enemy, given the chance, and he has the heart of a hero, just like Doctor Strange. He even found a way to combine the essence of alchemy and alkahestry, which helped the heroes foil Father's plan.

1 Wiz Knew Her Way Around Scary Magic (Konosuba)

konosuba wiz

The lich lord Wiz appears as a charming human woman, and she also runs a magic shop in the isekai world Kazuma Sato found himself in. Despite her immense and dark magic, though, Wiz doesn't often fight. Instead, she sells cool magic items to paying customers. Her shop has a rich selection of goods for wizards.

No doubt Wiz has delved deep into the mysteries of magic and arcane arts, and she can perform rare and advanced magic with ease, often with a dark edge despite her lovely personality. She's a support wizard as a whole, putting her in the same league as Doctor Strange.
