Doctor Strange actor and martial artist Scott Adkins admitted he regrets portraying the villainous Lucian in the 2016 film.

"That is one role that I regret taking," Adkins shared in an interview with The Illuminerdi. "I wish I would have held out and not taken the role, because now I feel I’ve blown my chance to be in the Marvel [Cinematic] Universe," he said.

In Doctor Strange, Lucian was a sorcerer and former member of the Masters of the Mystic Arts who became a zealot of the supervillain Dormammu. After stabbing Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in the back during a battle, Strange's Cloak of Levitation suffocated the zealot. Although Lucian's astral form remained, Doctor Strange was eventually able to focus his electrical amplification onto Lucian, incinerating his astral form as well.

In the same interview, Adkins also discussed portraying the Weapon XI version of Deadpool in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, noting that he never actually interacted with Wade Wilson actor Ryan Reynolds on the film's set.

Adkins also joked, "I wish Ryan [Reynolds] would have called me up for Deadpool 2… You know that bit at the end where he goes back [to X-Men Origins: Wolverine]… He could have killed me in the end. After all, it was my fault."

While Adkins' Lucian won't appear in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel -- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness -- for obvious reasons, the actor currently appears as the titular character in Martin Owen's Max Cloud. Set in the '90s, the film follows a 16-year-old gamer named Sarah, who is magically transported inside her 16-bit Max Cloud video game. Her real-life friend Cowboy must play her character and help the game's hero destroy an evil alien empire, while also searching for a way to get Sarah out of the game. Max Cloud hits video-on-demand (VoD) services on Dec. 18.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Elizabeth Olsen and Xochitl Gomez. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 25, 2022. Cumberbatch previously starred as the superhero sorcerer in Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, which can all be currently streamed on Disney+.
