The power of the Eye of Agamotto is at the heart of the latest motion poster promoting the impending release of "Doctor Strange" -- and it's quite possibly the most impressive yet.
Instead of the subtle rippling effect that seems to warp reality from previous "Doctor Strange" motion posters, here we witness the Eye glow a vivid viridian before reality appears to shred like so much paper. We are then transported, first to the Himalayas, and then to a kaleidoscopic pattern of cityscapes.
The poster, which was released via the official Marvel Studios Instagram account, also comes with an added line: "Through the mystic arts we harness energy and shape reality. #DoctorStrange"
The Eye of Agamotto made its comics debut in "Strange Tales" #115, cover dated December 1963, and was apparently named by a previous sorcerer supreme, although its origins remain obscure. What lies at the heart of its power? The prop appears to contain a green stone, and while it has not yet been officially confirmed, there has been some speculation that the Eye might contain one of the "Infinity Gems", which are set to feature prominently in the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War" film.
Directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stahlberg, Benjamin Bratt and Scott Adkins, “Doctor Strange” arrives in cinemas on November 4.
