The upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will mark something of a Spider-Man reunion, with Danny Elfman confirming that he is composing the score for the Sam Raimi-directed Marvel Studios film.

"I am starting to do bits of pre-work for Doctor Strange 2 that Sam Raimi's directing," Elfman said in a recent interview with Inverse. "Even though I don't start it for some months, there's bits of recorded music they need for the sets."

Raimi and Elfman first worked together on the 1990 film Darkman, though arguably their most famous collaboration came when Elfman composed the music for Raimi's first two Spider-Man films, which released in 2002 and 2004, respectively. While Elfman did not return to compose 2007's Spider-Man 3, he did collaborate with Raimi once more on the latter's 2013 film Oz the Great and Powerful. Elfman has scored countless other films over his career, and -- in addition to Raimi -- frequently collaborates with director Tim Burton, having composed Batman, Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, among others.

The sequel to 2016's Doctor Strange, Multiverse of Madness is currently slated for release next March. Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson originally signed on to direct the sequel. He ultimately stepped away from the job, though remained attached as an executive producer. Following Derrickson's departure, Raimi -- who is known in the world of comic book adaptations for his trilogy of Spider-Man films -- was tapped to direct Multiverse of Madness, putting him at the helm of a movie starring a Marvel character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko once again.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Xochitl Gomez. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 25, 2022.
