The following contains spoilers for Strange #8, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Doctor Strange reveals he's no fan of cryptocurrency in the latest issue of Marvel's Strange.

Strange #8 comes from writer Jed MacKay, artist Stefano Landini, penciler Marcelo Ferreira, inker Roberto Poggi, colorist Jana Tartaglia and letterer VC's Cory Petit. The issue contains a flashback from two years ago, which shows Doctor Stephen Strange being called to help Pandora Peters, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Wizard Alchemy Necromancy Department (W.A.N.D.). Stephen arrives without any immediate context as to what's going on or why Pandora needs his help; however, Pandora is in a hurry and has little time to explain.

Doctor Strange Really, Really Hates Cryptocurrency

As the two run down a hallway, Pandora asks what Stephen knows about cryptocurrency technology. "Director Peters, do I look like someone who knows about cryptocurrency technology?" he responds. Pandora briefly tries to explain the subject matter, saying, "The basic idea is that there's a decentralized network of computers around the world constantly performing enormous amounts of calculations." Stephen quickly retorts, "I literally cannot think of anything I am less interested in."

Stephen eventually learns he's been called to help Pandora stop a plot to infect the world with a cryptocurrency-like network of spells or incarnations. Near the end of the flashback, the issue reveals the perpetrator attempting to launch said network is the Blasphemy Cartel, the criminal organization Clea Strange, the current Sorcerer Supreme, has reluctantly found herself dealing with throughout the course of Strange.

Doctor Strange Returns From the Dead

While Stephen was assumed deceased at the start of Strange following the events of The Death of Doctor Strange, the iconic Marvel character was revealed to be alive in Strange #5. The resurrection came with the reveal that Stephen has been operating as the Harvestman, a mysterious figure who Clea previously referred to as "Death's Sorcerer Supreme" who first appeared in Strange #1.

Stephen has since revealed he's currently obliged to do the bidding of Death, itself, which has largely seen him hunt down a series of formerly dead superman monsters called the Revenants. While in the state of being death's servant, Stephen is unable to even touch Clea without risking their demise given the Sorcerer Supreme belongs to life and the Harvestman belongs to death. Clea is desperate to find a solution to the situation and gathers Pandora, Stephen and Wong in the Sanctum Sanctorum to determine how and why the Revenants are being created so that her husband can be freed.

Strange #8 features cover art by Lee Garbett and variant cover art by Greg Land and Frank D'Armata. The issue is on sale now from Marvel.
