WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Strange Academy Presents: The Death of Doctor Strange #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Doctor Strange has been many things over the course of his long history in the Marvel Universe. From first class surgeon to Sorcerer Supreme, it seems like there is nothing that Stephen Strange can't accomplish. Of course, such prestige comes with a lot of responsibility, the greatest of which might just be overseeing his own mystical school in the form of the Strange Academy. First and foremost is looking after the next generation of Masters of the Mystic Arts, something it turns out Doctor Strange has been doing for two of his students since their mother sold one of them in a deal with the devil.

The untimely demise of the Sorcerer Supreme has rocked the Marvel Universe to its core, but nowhere is feeling the loss quite like the Strange Academy. Following the news of Doctor Strange's death, classes are suspended and students are sent home. This is all done for their own protection, as the ripple effects of Strange's murder have already begun to show across the globe, and the campus grounds are hardly the most secure location for the young mages. In fact, Strange Academy Presents: The Death of Doctor Strange #1 (by Skottie Young, Mike Del Mundo, Marco D'Alfonso, and VC's Clayton Cowles) proves just how true that is by seeing one student, the Asgardian Iric, ripped away to another dimension before he's even finished packing his bags. As shocking as the kidnapping is, the school should have been better prepared for something like this considering Strange has already saved the young Asgardian from a similar fate in the past.

Years ago Doctor Strange came to the aid of the Asgardian Enchantress, Amora. This all came shortly after the birth of her twin sons Iric and Alvi, one of whom she had promised to the evil wizard Puslari in exchange for a mystical trinket. Strange wasn't willing to see either of the infants come to harm, so he helped the Enchantress stave off holding up her end of the bargain by imprisoning Pulsari, transforming him to stone. Now that Doctor Strange is gone, so is his hold over the evil wizard.

It comes as no surprise that Amora was willing to go to such lengths for her own gain, even if her deal comes off as more heartless than anyone could have expected. Alvi confronts his mother about what happened in a fit of rage, although her calm demeanor implies that she still has some ace up her sleeve when it comes to keeping her dysfunctional family together.

While Amora and Alvi will surely find some way of saving Iric from his captor, the fact that they have to in the first place is a dark omen for the rest of the students of Strange Academy. The Asgardians are likely the only ones whose parents have traded them off for enchanted jewelry, but all of them have been affected in some way by the magic that the Sorcerer Supreme was tasked with keeping in check.

Without Strange holding the balance over the mystical forces of the Marvel Universe, there is no telling how the lives of the other students will be affected. Hopefully, the students of Strange Academy will remember everything they've learned so far, considering the fact that they may be on their own for the foreseeable future.
