Doctor Strange Director Saved Eye of Agamotto From Wildfire

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson was able to save a critical piece of memorabilia from the California wildfires.

Last week,Â Doctor StrangeÂ director Scott Derrickson tweeted that his home was among the many in the dangerous path of the Woosley wildfires that have burned through Ventura and Los Angeles counties, leaving many without homes to return to, including some in the Hollywood world.However, before evacuating his home, Derrickson was able to secure a valuable piece of Marvel memorabilia, which he shared with his Twitter followers on Wednesday evening. In his tweet, we see the original Eye of Agamotto from the 2016Â Doctor StrangeÂ film, safe and sound in Derrickson's possession."When evacuating for a fire, you only have time to grab a handful of things," Derrickson said in the tweet. "The original Eye Of Agamotto is safe."

The Eye of Agamotto is the sacred amulet that Doctor Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) uses to store the Time Stone, one of the six coveted Infinity Stones. Of course, the Time Stone is no longer in the Eye of Agamotto and is instead on Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet, which is used to house all six stones. We saw Doctor Strange give the stone to Thanos to spare the life of Tony Stark (or perhaps for some other clever, long-term reason) in the events ofÂ Avengers: Infinity War.

Derrickson was also able to recover some more sentimental artifacts when sifting through the remains of his home, tweeting out a photo that he had recovered his father's old dog tags from his time in the service. Fittingly, this tweet was sent out on Veteran's Day.

The Eye of Agamotto has obvious sentimental value for Derrickson and Marvel fans everywhere, as well as significant financial value. To put into perspective, you can find an "authenticated duplicate" of the Eye of Agamotto on Shop Disney's official website for over $3,000. Only 50 of these duplicates have been made (according to the website), and if they are going for that much money online, one can only imagine the value of the original prop for the movie, which of course, is edition one of one. Still, that pales in comparison to what Derrickson and many others lost in the horrific fires, but at least some positive came out of it, like saving a sacred prop from one his most successful films.

Derrickson was best known for such horror films as The Exorcism of Emily RoseÂ and Sinister before Marvel Studios tapped him to direct 2016's Doctor Strange, which earned more than $677 million worldwide. It's been suggested that a sequel could begin filming before the end of the year.
