The Strange Academy has never been an especially safe place for the next generation of Masters of the Mystic Arts to study. However, these young magic-using students of Doctor Strange never expected that they would end up facing off against one of their own, even if they are possessed by a malevolent force. Luckily, there is one pupil in particular who knows all about that, and Dessi has just made it clear that she has always been the most dangerous thing on campus n Strange Academy #12 by Skottie Young, Humberto Ramos, Edgar Delgado and VC's Clayton Cowles.
Calvin has always had it rough, and now more so than ever after his magical jacket finally revealed itself to be none other than Mister Misery. The creature had originally been created by Doctor Strange in an effort to circumvent his pain, but Mister Misery only grew into a certifiable threat of his own. After narrowly surviving their last encounter, Misery has found a new way to strike back at Strange. There is nothing more that Misery Morse wants more than to inflict and subsequently feed on the pain of others, but one of Calvin's pupils might as well be a walking buffet. Dessy, daughter of the demonic S'ym, has no problem offering Misery a taste of the pain she carries with her.
Dessy, whose full name is actually Despair, is far from the average demon. Her father S'ym has long been the most prominent demon in all of Limbo. While there have been other more powerful figures in that realm, S'ym has always stood out among the crowd, and for good reason. Now it has become clear that Dessy has exceeded the best (or worst) of her father's abilities, even if they aren't totally comparable.
Dessy might not have S'ym's strength, but she does have an uncanny ability to see the pain in all things, which apparently comes along with being able to control it as well. Despite the fact that Mister Misery literally subsists himself on the suffering of others, what Dessy unleashes on him is too much to deal with. Misery is reduced to begging for the young demon to take the pain away.
Seeing Mister Misery be eaten is an unsettling sight, even if it isn't the first time that has happened. When Doctor Strange defeated Misery the first time, the Sorcerer Supreme also consumed him -- although he wasn't able to keep everything down. In the case of Dessy, however, it's hard to imagine she will find any difficulty in that. Hopefully, this means that Mister Misery is now gone for good. If nothing else, at least the others know just how powerful Dessy really is. With any luck, none of them will find themselves on her bad side anytime soon.
