Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, writers of the first Doctor Strange film, didn't have the opportunity to submit the first draft of the script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before their exit.

"Since it keeps coming up in news stories, it's worth noting that Scott and I never had the opportunity to write a draft of MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, so whatever they are working with now isn't derivative of our work," Cargill shared on Twitter. "I am of course very excited to see where they take Stephen next."

Jade Bartlett was reportedly hired to write the Doctor Strange sequel's script. However, it was recently reported that the showrunner for the upcoming Disney+series Loki, Michael Waldron, would take over as writer.

Derrickson, who also directed the first Doctor Strange, has been in the news lately for leaving Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness over creative differences. He will, however, remain as an executive producer on the upcoming film. Doctor Strange The first film was written by Derrickson, Cargill and Jon Spaihts.

There is no word on who will officially take Derrickson's place as director, though recent reports have Marvel eyeing Sam Raimi.
