With all of the major developments that happened in WandaVision, one can only imagine what their implications will mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following the conclusion of the series, fans have already taken to the internet to discuss theories for the coming projects, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been a prominent topic, mostly because the film is directly tied to the events of WandaVision.

Of course, as is the case for every superhero movie, a supervillain is needed, and while some have speculated Multiverse of Madness' villain will be Agatha Harkness, that may not be the case. In fact, a Reddit user claims that the antagonist of Doctor Strange's second outing will actually be Wanda herself.

The post-credits scene in WandaVision's final episode, "The Series Finale," found the Scarlet Witch living in a secluded mountain area in a small cabin. However, in a stunning turn of events, as Wanda projects her astral form while trying to unlock the secrets of the Darkhold, the voices of her children can be heard.

The fan theory by u/tBHzHomer suggests that Wanda, in search of Billy and Tommy, will tear across time and space, further complicating the already messy multiverse. The barriers between realities will falter, leading them to bleed into one another. Being the protector of realities, Doctor Strange will discover this, and in turn, realize Wanda is the source of the problem. And if that's the case, Strange won't be assisting Wanda in her search for the twins, he'll be trying to mend the realities she's shattered.

And if that wasn't enough to convince, a commenter on the post expands the theory by mentioning Baron Mordo, a fellow sorcerer who went rogue at the end of Doctor Strange. That film seemed to set him up to be the villain in Multiverse of Madness, and he still could be within this theory. It's possible that Mordo will take advantage of the torn realities, or maybe a desperate Wanda herself, to further his own goals. He stated in Doctor Strange that the problem with the world is that it has "too many sorcerers," so it stands to reason that he could use the "madness" to take down other magic-users, or even challenge Strange for the title of Sorcerer Supreme.

In addition, the theory also goes on to say that eventually, Wanda will realize she's being manipulated by Mephisto or Nightmare. By using her chaos magic, she breaks down whatever barrier is keeping them out of their reality, bringing about mass destruction. This is what Agatha meant when she said Wanda will destroy the world; Wanda herself won't bring about destruction, but her chaos magic will unleash a force that will.

Wanda as the "villain" of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness makes perfect sense. Still grieving and desperate to obtain some semblance of the perfect life she created, Wanda will stop at nothing to find her children -- even if it means causing mass destruction. She'll serve as an unconventional, sympathetic villain as she continues to process her loss, and Strange will appear, not to battle against her, but to clean up the mess she's made.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Xochitl Gomez. The film arrives in theaters March 25, 2022.
