A piece of merchandise indicates an important plot point from Spider-Man: No Way Home carries over into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

A listing on Amazon for an officially-licensed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shirt shows the titular hero alongside Wong. The bubble for Wong's name dubs him the Sorcerer Supreme, a title No Way Home revealed him as having received during the Blip. While Marvel Cinematic Universe merchandise is not always accurate to what happens or the state of things, this does indicate Wong will still be the Sorcerer Supreme at the start of sequel.

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Wong first appeared in 1963's Strange Tales #110. In the comics, he serves as Doctor Strange's valet. However, Benedict Wong's portrayal of the character in the MCU re-imagines him slightly. Wong first played the character in 2016's Doctor Strange and reprised his roles for 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, 2019's Avenger: Endgame, 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and No Way Home.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a sequel to the titular hero's 2016 film. That movie earned $677.7 million against a budget of between $165 and $236.6 million and was well-received by critics, earning an 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes as well as an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects. After Doctor Strange's release, Marvel Studios greenlit a sequel with director Scott Derrickson slated to return. However, Derrickson departed the project due to creative differences. Sam Raimi later stepped in to replace him.

At this time, much of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' plot remains shrouded in mystery. Currently, we know the movie takes place after the events of No Way Home, Loki and WandaVision, all three of which released in 2021. The plot synopsis for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness teases the titular hero continuing his investigation into the Time Stone when a former ally -- seemingly Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor)-- interferes. This causes a great evil to be released. The movie will also feature the MCU debut of Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez as well as the return of Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

Directed by Raimi from a script by Jade Halley Bartlett and Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is slated to release on May 6.
