Marvel Studios producer Richie Palmer labels Wanda Maximoff as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most powerful characters ahead of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

It is common question among power-scaling fans: who is the most powerful? Speaking in a Spring 2022 issue of D23, Palmer believes that the upcoming film features the MCU's two dominant powerhouses -- both Wanda and Doctor Strange. "They’re arguably two of the most - if not the most - powerful beings in the MCU. It was only a matter of time before we got them together, and we do it in a pretty fun, unique way."

There are many MCU heroes that fans rally behind to deem the most powerful, which extends beyond Wanda and Strange. Commonly brought up characters include Brie Larson's Captain Marvel and Chris Hemsworth's Thor, though Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has also given the title to Wanda in the past. Feige was asked who was the strongest Avenger while appearing at the New York Film Academy in 2019, and cited how her almost killing Thanos earned her the title.

Feige made this affirmation based on Avengers: Endgame and a one-on-one battle with Thanos. Since then, Wanda showed her might further in WandaVision on Disney+. The series explored her reality-warping and mind-controlling abilities, which she subconsciously used to enslave an entire town, Westview, and create a family for herself and Vision (who she resurrected from her mind). The series ended with the adoption of her Scarlet Witch persona from comics, as well as giving her one of the strongest objects from Marvel, the Darkhold.

Palmer has labeled Strange as being on par with Wanda, though he has not attained his full comic book status like her yet. Spider-Man: No Way Home revealed that in Strange's absence following Thanos' snap erasing half of all life in the universe, Wong was appointed as Earth's Sorcerer Supreme. The trailer for the upcoming film also indicates that there will be some powerful variants of Strange appearing as well, with the possibility of Strange Supreme from What If...? on Disney+.

In addition to Wanda and Strange though, Multiverse of Madness may reintroduce some Marvel powerhouses of old. The trailer includes a voice very similar to that of Sir Patrick Stewart's Professor X, a powerful telepath, and there is speculation that he will be featured as a member of Marvel's Illuminati ensemble. Fans may also see Wanda and Strange settle who is the most powerful, being that the trailer hints at some tension over which of the two really classifies as a "villain" for their actions.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in our universe's theaters on May 6, 2022.
