Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reportedly featured a very different opening scene which sees Wanda's villainous status established almost immediately.

According to Paul Tweddle of YouTube channel Heavy Spoilers, the script originally depicted Baron Mordo dying at the hands of Scarlet Witch in the film's introduction. "Now that the film is out though, I can say I know for definite there was a scene with Mordo in it in which he went to visit Wanda at the start of the movie," Tweddle said. "Mordo was going to be the main villain that showed up in the introduction to the movie, and he'd be used to demonstrate Wanda's new ruthless attitude. He would go to attack her and she'd turn him into mom's spaghetti, beheading him within seconds of his arrival." Tweddle explains that the intention of the scene was to immediately establish the Scarlet Witch as the antagonist rather than obscuring the information for a reveal later in the first act. After Mordo's death, the film would then cut to America Chavez and Defender Strange running through the Gap Junction.

The cut scene would have further accentuated the horrific tone prevalent throughout Multiverse of Madness, a creative decision brought to life by director Sam Raimi’s guidance. The graphic nature of the original introduction's description also bears a resemblance to a scene that did make the final cut of the film, in which Wanda kills the members of the Illuminati. With an MPA rating of PG-13, Multiverse of Madness has received varying audience reactions for its violent content.

A multiverse variant of Baron Mordo from Earth-838, as portrayed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, does make an appearance in Multiverse of Madness. However, the version of the villainous sorcerer from the Earth-616 universe who last appeared in the post-credits scene of the first Doctor Strange (2016) film is nowhere to be found in the sequel. Despite this, the Master of the Mystic Arts does briefly allude to the danger posed by this former ally in a line of dialogue early in the film.

Multiverse of Madness sets up a myriad of creative possibilities to be further explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and future Doctor Strange sequels. Many fans suspect that Clea (Charlize Theron), who makes her MCU debut in the film's mid-credits scene, will play a significant role in the franchise's future. At the time of writing, it's currently unknown when Doctor Strange will next return to the big screen.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now playing in theaters.
