It's safe to say Doctor Strange has been a major liability in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He broke the rules in his first solo film, using the Time Stone to stop Kaecilius' rampage, which caused him to draw the ire of Baron Mordo, who left the sorcerers by deeming this act arrogant and dangerous. Strange's careless nature came to light once more in Spider-Man: No Way Home, when he opened a portal that caused the Multiverse to spill over to their world. Yet, despite repeated offenses, he was never chided or deemed a hazard to the planet. Well, come the Super Bowl trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Scarlet Witch finally calls out this double standard.

In the MCU, Wanda Maximoff has been frequently mistreated. She was made into a weapon of mass destruction by Hydra and treated like a child when she flipped sides to join the Avengers. And things got even worse in Civil War when Vision kept her prisoner at the compound, reinforcing the idea that no one trusted her.

And as the Multiverse of Madness trailer hints, Wanda's fed up after her Westview incident in WandaVision, wanting to know why others aren't held accountable for mistakes and singled out. Admittedly, creating her own reality in a New Jersey town was bad, as was brainwashing the minds of the residents and their bodies, but a lot of it was tied to grief and her reaction to Thanos killing Vision.

Strange, on the other hand, had no excuse for ignoring Wong and ripping reality open other than his own hubris. It's similar to other characters in the MCU showing problematic behavior, such as Iron Man and Hulk creating Ultron without telling the Avengers and Captain America taking on his teammates after the Sokovia Accords went into effect. These men never had consequences outside of the ones they gave themselves.

Scarlet Witch might turn on Doctor Strange

Wanda, though, is vilified after the Westview debacle, fleeing to the woods to hide from SWORD and a world that will always see her as a monster. It's why she tells the former Sorcerer Supreme, "You break the rules and become a hero. I do it, I become the enemy," confirming they don't get consequences as she does.

It's a massive shot at the MCU's hypocrisy, and it could be setting up for an even darker turn for Wanda. While visiting other realities as she helps Strange patch his error, she may get tired of being a pariah and outcast who always loses, while others who exhibit impulsive traits get off without so much as a warning. This might unleash an unhinged Scarlet Witch the MCU isn't ready for.

To see if Wanda grows tired of being made out to be a villain, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres in theaters on May 6.
