Sam Raimi officially teased the return of his longest-lasting movie collaborator -- outside of Bruce Campbell -- for a Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cameo: the Oldsmobile Delta 88.
During a recent Reddit open Q&A with director Evan Spiliotopoulos on their recent horror film The Unholy, which Raimi produced, Raimi was asked whether his upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film would feature the Oldsmobile Delta. In a pun-laden response, he admitted that the car "is currently considering a small cameo. It Auto!"
Raimi's 1973 model Oldsmobile Delta 88 first appeared in his 1981 directorial debut The Evil Dead as the car that took Ash Williams and his friends to the vacation cabin where they discovered the Book of the Dead. Since then, the Oldsmobile has made brief cameos in the majority of Raimi's filmography, including Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, Crimewave, Darkman, Drag Me to Hell and the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy. A version of the car also appeared in the 2013 Evil Dead remake and Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series, with the latter even getting possessed by the Necronomicon in Season 2.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will see Raimi team up once again with musical collaborator Danny Elfman, who provided the score for his previous films like Spider-Man and Darkman. While Bruce Campbell has yet to openly confirm his involvement, the actor tweeted a photo of London's skyline in February around the time Raimi was filming Multiverse of Madness in London. The film will also serve as a sequel to the Disney+ show WandaVision, whose series finale saw Wanda Maximoff officially adopt her 'Scarlet Witch' moniker and take Agatha Harkness's Darkhold for further reading in a post-credits scene.
Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Xochitl Gomez. The film arrives in theaters March 25, 2022.
