Ahead of Multiverse of Madness' worldwide debut, first reactions to Doctor Strange's latest big-screen adventure have been largely positive. Many critics who attended the Hollywood premiere have praised director Sam Raimi for channeling a unique tone and style in Multiverse of Madness, with many hailing it as one of the most unique films in the MCU. Others have stated that fans of Marvel comics can look forward to plenty of surprises that could have wide-reaching ramifications for the cinematic universe. Some believe that the movie's structure and pacing are somewhat messy given the sheer amount of content it stuffs into its two-hour run time but this is ultimately redeemed by strong character moments, including those for Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

Disney is doing its best to prevent leaks for Multiverse of Madness from propagating online. Marvel Studios recently disabled the comments sections of both its Twitter and Instagram accounts to prevent the possible spread of unwanted spoilers. "See you on the other side of the Multiverse," wrote the studio. It's currently unknown when the comments section will be reactivated.

The latest Doctor Strange film is expected to introduce a wealth of new characters and villains into the MCU, one of whom fans believe to be Patrick Stewart's Professor X. While many believed the powerful mutant to be the incarnation of the character seen in Fox's X-Men films, subsequent trailers revealed a floating yellow armchair reminiscent of the '90s X-Men animated series. Professor X is just one character expected to comprise the MCU version of the Illuminati.

Given the massive scale of Multiverse of Madness, Raimi noted that the film was the most complex project he's ever worked on. "It's probably the most complex movie I've ever had anything to do with," said the director. "Not just dealing with one character, or even five characters, but multiversal versions of those characters -- and each one has a storyline."

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters on May 6.
