Official merchandise for Marvel Studios' upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems to have confirmed one of the long-awaited film's major villains.

Artwork for a 1000-piece puzzle set confirms that the interdimensional being known as Shuma-Gorath will serve as a major antagonist in the Doctor Strange sequel. The box art also features illustrations presented to the cast and crew of the project when filming wrapped in April, featuring Doctor Strange and his allies: Wong, America Chavez and the Scarlet Witch.

Shuma-Gorath made his debut in 1973's Marvel Premiere #10 (written by Steve Englehart and Frank Brunner, with artwork by Brunner, Crusty Bunkers, Ernie Chan and Cory Adams). The demonic entity often appears as a giant octopus-like creature with a single eye comprising much of its form. In the comics, Shuma-Gorath is shown to have existed during Earth's prehistoric era and has been said to have existed before time itself. It is a powerful entity that rules over numerous universes and possesses a wide variety of abilities, including the ability to warp reality itself. While Shuma-Gorath's physical form is not invulnerable, it is virtually impossible to defeat its astral form.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness sees the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Benedict Wong as Wong. The upcoming movie will also introduce actor Xochitl Gomez to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as America Chavez.
