Marvel Cinematic Universe films are no strangers to surprise villains -- and a Marvel Legends toy might just reveal one appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Recently, Entertainment Earth listed the "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Marvel Legends D’Spayre 6-Inch Action Figure." The description and name for the figure indicate D'Spayre will appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That being said, toys of a character do not necessarily indicate that they'll be in a given film. If D'Spayre is in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, just what role he'll play isn't clear either. Along with other Marvel Legends figures, the D'Spayre toy, which is available for pre-order now for release in Feb. 2022, features a piece of Rintrah, a relatively obscure apprentice of Doctor Strange's in the comics.

Created by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, D'Spayre is a demon that first appeared in 1978's Marvel Team-Up #68. He's one of the Fear Lords, a group of beings empowered by making others afraid. That group gives D'Spayre a close connection to the Dweller-in-Darkness, who served as the main villain for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Rings. The Dweller-in-Darkness is actually responsible for the creation of D'Spayre, having used fear springing from the sinking of Atlantis.

The plot synopsis for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness teases the titular hero (Benedict Cumberbatch) continuing his investigation into the Time Stone when a friend-turned-enemy -- presumably Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) -- interferes, causing him to unleash a deadly evil. The movie will also feature Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez).

The first trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness served as the end-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home. That footage has now appeared online and teases Doctor Strange heading into a dangerous multiverse, where he'll be forced to face some major villains, including an alternate version of himself.

Directed by Sam Raimi from a script by Jade Halley Bartlett and Michael Waldron, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is slated for release on May 6, 2022. In addition to those mentioned above, the film features performances from Benedict Wong as Wong and Rachel McAdams as Dr. Christine Palmer.
