Marvel fans were heard screaming at their televisions around the world when the latest Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness trailer showed what appeared to be the introduction of the Illuminati. The Illuminati is a council of some of the world's brightest and most powerful minds that counts Tony Stark, Charles Xavier and Reed Richards among its members. Though the trailer's glimpse of the Illuminati was very brief, there were five chairs clearly visible in the shot in front of Stephen Strange -- with one figure looking particularly long and lean, making audiences think they may be getting a Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic cameo in Doctor Strange 2.

The Fantastic Four made their big-screen debut in 2005's Fantastic Four, starring Ioan Gruffudd as Mr. Fantastic and Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, before he was cast as Captain America (who might also be an Illuminati member). After 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer underwhelmed, Miles Teller then played Mr. Fantastic in 2015's rebooted film of the same name. But if Reed Richards is going to appear in Multiverse of Madness, there's an actor from The Office whom fans have long been campaigning to see take over the role.

John Krasinski

John Krasinski played the slightly dorky, lovable, romantic paper salesman Jim Halpert on NBC's hit sitcom The Office, which launched him to worldwide fame. Many Office fans hailed Krasinski's performance as Halpert as one of the highlights of the show, though they were astounded when of a muscle-bound Krasinski graced the cover of Men's Health in 2015. The actor had bulked up for future film opportunities, and his change in physique also brought about a change in the type of characters he played, including the title role in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan for Prime Video.

A new Fantastic Four is reportedly joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while no official cast has been announced yet, fans have been assembling their dream casts for some time. With his star turns in projects like Jack Ryan and his work both in front of and behind the camera with the A Quiet Place films, Krasinski has become an audience front-runner for the role of Mr. Fantastic. He's even been rumored to have filmed scenes for Multiverse of Madness.

John Krasinski

Krasinski looks the part, as seen in numerous fan art images online that depict him in Mr. Fantastic's suit with his signature hairstyle. Plus, it's entirely plausible for Marvel to use the existence of the Multiverse -- which has infinite variants -- as an explanation for Krasinski portraying Reed Richards in Multiverse of Madness without having to retcon or explain the absences of Gruffudd and Teller. Doctor Strange 2 is the perfect film to make such a casting change.

The existence of the Multiverse establishes that truly anything and everything Marvel is fair game in the current MCU timeline. That makes it possible that director Sam Raimi may use Multiverse of Madness to bring in completely new versions of characters that audiences have yet to see. After all, when "Madness" is in the title, viewers are going to go into the film expecting a certain amount of surprises -- and seeing John Krasinski actually playing Mr. Fantastic would be a massive surprise.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits theaters May 6, 2022.
