Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has just added an obscure Marvel monster villain to its cast of characters.

Actor Yenifer Molina's profile on the professional networking site Mandy shows her cast as "Gargantos 2" in the upcoming film from Marvel Studios. No other information on the role is shown on the site.

A one-eyed, squid-like sea monster called Gargantos first appeared in 1969 in Marvel's Sub-Mariner #13 by Roy Thomas and Marie Severin. In that issue, Namor the Sub-Mariner battled the deadly monster unleashed, and shortly thereafter destroyed, the Lemurian Emperor Naga. Gargantos briefly appeared one more time two decades later in a backup story by Peter Sanderson and Mark Bagley in X-Factor Annual #4. The monstrous sea creature hasn't been seen since.

Whatever connection this not-so-classic monster has to Molina's "Gargantos 2" is unknown. The creature never took on a human appearance in the comics, so it's likely that Molina's role will reflect an entirely new character.

Molina's recent roles also include bit parts in 2019's Pokémon Detective Pikachu and this year's Tom and Jerry live action/animated films, according to her Mandy profile.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness reportedly follows up events from Loki and WandaVision on Disney+, as well as 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

Directed by Sam Raimi, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Cumberbatch and Olsen, as well as Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Xochitl Gomez. The film arrives in theaters March 25, 2022.
