Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness producer Richie Palmer has confirmed that the film did include a Doctor Doom Easter egg.
In the film's audio commentary, Palmer revealed some interesting details about John Krasinski's entrance as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in the Illuminati scene. "It’s exciting that costume designed by Ryan Meinerding, is a really special treat," he said, adding that the teleportation device Mister Fantastic arrives through was inspired by a similar device used by Doctor Doom in the comics. "The detail of the teleportation device he uses to get into the scene is something we took from the comics, that’s Doctor Doom’s Time Platform."
The Time Platform first appeared in Fantastic Four #5 back in 1962 and was invented by classic Fantastic Four villain Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom. The device allows the user to travel through time and was first used by Doctor Doom to send The Fantastic Four back in time to steal the Stones of Merlin from the early 18th century. The Time Platform has also been used by Marvel's First Family to travel back in time to Ancient Egypt, World War I, and the prehistoric era. Multiverse of Madness marks the first time the device has appeared in live-action, but Marvel Studios has yet to confirm if the device actually allows Earth-838's Mister Fantastic to time-travel or simply acts as a teleportation device.
The audio commentary for Multiverse of Madness has so far confirmed and/or revealed several interesting facts about the 2022 Marvel Cinematic Universe film, such as which Earth Defender Strange is from. The commentary also unveiled that a scan of Elizabeth Olsen's eyes was used to create Gargantos' eyeball and that an early draft of the film's script included a variant of the Wasp as a member of the Illuminati. Writer Michael Waldron also disclosed how Scarlet Witch would have dispatched the Wasp during the character's victorious fight against the Illuminati.
Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed a third Doctor Strange film, but Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the titular Master of the Mystic Arts within the MCU, hopes Marvel will eventually greenlight Doctor Strange 3. "I hope so. I would love to do another one. Doctor Strange is such a complex character, and it feels like there is so much more to explore with him," said the actor, adding that "He is such a brilliant character and I'm still having a wild time playing him."
In addition to Cumberbatch, Multiverse of Madness stars Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, and Rachel McAdams. Fans can now stream the film, alongside the majority of the MCU, on Disney+.
