Though only a few months away from its theatrical release, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness still may not be finished, according to director Sam Raimi.

While speaking to Variety, Raimi expressed his uncertainty as to whether or not the upcoming sequel was finished filming. "I wish I knew the answer to that question," Raimi said when asked if the movie was complete. "I think we're done, but we just cut everything. We're just starting to test the picture and we'll find out if there's anything that's got to be picked up. If something's unclear or another improvement I can make in this short amount of time left, I'll do it."

Raimi went on to note the consistent involvement of Marvel Studios in the sequel's production. "One thing I know about the Marvel team is they won't stop," Raimi said. "They'll keep pushing it until it's as close to being great as it could."

The director elaborated on his relationship with Marvel Studios and its president Kevin Feige, emphasizing the positive collaborative experience he had while working on the film. "Marvel's been a great team to work with," Raimi said. "I think that was a not-surprising surprise. I've been super-supported by the whole Marvel operations, starting at the top with Kevin Feige, and working all the way down to the crews that they work with. [They're] super professional and have supported me every step of the way."

Reshoots for Multiverse of Madness were confirmed to have wrapped earlier this month. When the reshoots were first announced, star Benedict Cumberbatch stated that he expected them to make the film "even better." The actor has also cited logistical and scheduling issues as the reasons behind the reshoots. "We're in the middle of reshoots and we're working incredibly hard to make a schedule work to realize the full potential of the film -- bits that we want to do better but also bits that were just impossible to do on the day because of logistics, COVID, etc," he explained. "We were so delayed in production because of that. Luckily, not during production too much. Although everything is just a little slower."

It was previously reported that the reshoots would also include several additional cameos by both newcomers and existing members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with rumors already circulating in regards to the potential cameos. While Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch will appear in the Doctor Strange sequel, Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man has been rumored to appear after both characters' Portuguese voice actors appeared in a photo together. A cameo by Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four has also been rumored for the film, according to a report suggesting actor John Krasinski has already filmed scenes for the sequel.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be summoned into theaters May 6.
