The following contains spoilers for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 4, "Is This Not Real Magic?," now streaming on Disney+.

New Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness concept art just surfaced online, bringing a Donny Blaze-esque slant to Benedict Cumberbatch's Master of the Mystic Arts.

Concept artist Darrell J. Warner shared the design on Instagram. It depicts one of Stephen Strange's multiversal variants, an old-school magician who goes by the name "Marvelous Melvyn" and sports a fez and flowing red robe. This incarnation of the good doctor apparently boasts an equally classic repertoire of magic tricks, as evidenced by the playing card in his hand and the rabbit poking out of a hat on the table beside him. Warner notes in the post's caption that this concept was developed when Scott Derrickson was still set to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and was abandoned when Sam Raimi replaced him.

While Werner's design ultimately went unused, the concept of someone with actual magical abilities practicing stage magic was eventually recycled in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Episode 4, "Is This Not Real Magic?". Here, fans are introduced to Donny Blaze (Rhys Coiro), a former student of the Mystic Arts who was expelled from Kamar-Taj and now performs fake magic for a living. Blaze still retains some of his mystical powers, however, and he quickly earns the ire of Wong (Benedict Wong) after unwittingly transporting audience member Madisynn (Patty Guggenheim) to the Sorcerer Supreme's personal chambers.

Scott Derrickson's Plans for Doctor Strange 2

It remains to be seen whether other ideas explored during Derrickson's tenure at the helm of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will likewise feature in upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Derrickson's vision for the sequel featured the demon Nightmare as its main villain, a character who is still yet to debut in the MCU. Concept designs for Nightmare have since made their way online which depict the Dream Dimension's ruler wielding a sword on horseback. In the final film, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch serves as the chief antagonist, instead.

Derrickson's version of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would also have introduced a key location to the MCU, the Wendigo Forest. As conceived by Derrickson, this haunted woodland would've led Strange to the lake house where his sister Donna died when they were children, and where he and Nightmare do battle in the present day.
