Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness actor Benedict Wong opened up about his internet-breaking appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The most recent Shang-Chi trailer revealed much more story and action than the first teaser, letting fans know more about how it will introduce the titular hero and the mythical Ten Rings. But the tag at the end came as an even bigger shot, as a scene at an underground fight club appeared to feature the Abomination, last seen in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, battling a sorcerer. It was quickly confirmed that it was Abomination and he was fighting Wong. Actor Benedict Wong, who played the role in Doctor Strange and Avengers: Infinity War, talked to Syfy Wire about joining the landmark superhero movie.

"When Shang-Chi was happening, I was so pleased that it was happening, but I was a little kind of crestfallen I wasn't a part of it," Wong said. "And then the call [from Marvel Studios] came. And I was like, 'Yes!'"

Wong went on to discuss what it was like joining a film full of Asian and Asian American actors, including one of his acting heroes. "You know, I'm super thrilled," Wong said. "And then to be sat at a table of Asian excellence, it was amazing. And I'm a big fan of all of those artists. Tony Leung [who plays the villainous Wenwu] is a massive idol of mine. So it's been constant surprises, that's what [the role of Wong] gives me."

After his appearance in Shang-Chi, Wong will next appear in the Doctor Strange sequel. Abomination, and actor Tim Roth, will have a role on She-Hulk alongside Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, so the villain's return in Shang-Chi will help reacquaint audiences with him.

Though not much is known about Doctor Strange 2, the subtitle clearly indicates the multiverse will play a huge role in the film. Benedict Cumberbatch and Wong will also be joined by returning actor Rachel McAdams, while Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch will jump from WandaVision to the movie. In fact, Olsen recently said WandaVision is essential viewing ahead of Doctor Strange 2.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits theaters Sept 3., while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives March 25, 2022.
