The Baby-Sitters Club star Xochitl Gomez has reportedly joined the cast of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and directed by Sam Raimi.

According to Deadline, details on Gomez's character are unknown at this time, with Marvel choosing not to comment on the news.

Gomez portrayed Dawn Schafer in Netflix's reboot of The Baby-Sitters Club, which premiered in July. Dawn is a new resident to Stoneybrook and is the alternate officer of the club.

"I’m in pre-production with the second Dr. Strange film, which is very exciting. We will start filming in late October or early November," Cumberbatch recently revealed. The Doctor Strange sequel is one of many Marvel Studios films to have its release date impacted by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Doctor Strange will also co-star with Tom Holland and fill the mentor role in Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios' untitled Spider-Man 3. The mentor role was previously filled by Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark/Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming. and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Cumberbatch's involvement comes on the heels of Jamie Foxx reprising his role as the villain Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The additions of Foxx and Cumberbatch leads to speculation that the third Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland could deal with the multiverse, which will be explored in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and WandaVision, a Marvel Studios series debuting later this year on Disney+.

Scott Derrickson, who helmed 2016's Doctor Strange and signed on to do the same for Multiverse of Madness, stepped down as director in January. Derrickson explained that while he will no longer direct Multiverse of Madness, he is still attached to the Doctor Strange sequel as an executive producer. The following month in February, it was reported that Raimi was in talks to direct Doctor Strange 2. Aside from his work on Sony's original Spider-Man film trilogy, Raimi is best known for his work in horror.
