Veterans Day weekend box office numbers tend to be either really good or really bad -- and in Doctor Sleep's case, things are not looking too good.

According to Deadline, Doctor Sleep is a mid-$50 million production in terms of cost. Early estimates placed the film at earning at least $25 million over opening weekend, but instead Doctor Sleep is falling short with $12.6 million. The film opened at number two, falling behind Roland Emmerich's action-oriented World War II movie Midway. Midway earned a far less positive response from critics, scoring a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it is still managing to outsell Doctor Sleep, the sequel to much-beloved classic The Shining.

Warner Bros. usually does well with its horror movies, and critically Doctor Sleep is doing fairly well. The Stephen King sequel currently has a 73% fresh rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, collecting generally favorable reviews. Despite this positive critical response, the box office numbers are not nearly as impressive.

Written and directed by Mike Flanagan, Doctor Sleep stars Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Carl Lumbly, Alex Essoe and Zahn McClarnon. The film is in theaters now.
