Instead of destroying the team, for once, Doctor Doom may actually save the Fantastic Four.

Marvel has announced details for Fantastic Four #7, which will be the title's 700th legacy issue after the heroic family first appeared over 60 years ago in 1961. Written by Ryan North and illustrated by Iban Coello, the over-sized book will spotlight Doctor Doom as he tries to undo the unknown catastrophe that made the team's ranks go their separate ways and become hated by the Marvel Universe. Doom is set to journey across time and space to achieve this feat, but Marvel teases that while he may succeed, his possible failure could have disastrous consequences.

"I feel privileged to be writing the Fantastic Four at any time, honestly, but getting to have a big milestone issue happen on my watch is certainly lucky -- and it's an opportunity I didn't want to waste," North said about Fantastic Four #7. "A big anniversary issue like this demands a similarly big story, something meaningful, impactful, and memorable. And given that it's a supersized issue with more room to play, everything aligned to do a story with the Fantastic Four's most meaningful, impactful, memorable, and supersized villain: Doctor Doom."

Fans Find Out What the Fantastic Four Did in February 2023

North and Coello's Fantastic Four run opened with the mystery of an unseen calamity that has caused the superhero family to break up. The Thing and his wife are off visiting small towns, Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman are doing the same together, and the Human Torch is off performing his heroics while also working in a superstore. The issue Fantastic Four #4 out on Feb. 15 is set to reveal what exactly the team did that broke them up, destroyed the Baxter Building and left a massive crater in New York City.

As of writing, Doom himself has not yet appeared in Marvel's latest Fantastic Four title, but his minions have. During their travels in Fantastic Four #2, Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman discovered a small town populated by Doombots, all of which were all constructed by the villain to protect an older woman who showed him kindness once. Reed and Sue learn that the woman was eventually replaced by a Doombot after she died, one that assumed her memories and kindhearted personality, and the two decide to leave the town alone and in peace.

The Fantastic Four Is Getting a New Home

Not only will the upcoming anniversary issue feature Doom, but it is going to give the reunited Fantastic Four a new home, one that Doom will be waiting for them within. North explained, "Doom demands nothing less than the biggest issue of the year being dedicated to him, and I dare not defy Doom," adding, “It's a big twisty story that brings the Fantastic Four to their new home and views what's happened to both families over the past year in a new light. The Fantastic Four are down, but not out, and Doom senses an opportunity..."

Fantastic Four #7 is written by North, illustrated by Coello and features main cover art by Alex Ross. The issue is set to go on sale May 17 from Marvel Comics.
