Doctor Doom, one of the greatest villains to ever exist within the Marvel Universe, has become leader of the Avengers in a preview for All-Out Avengers #2.
All-Out Avengers #2 comes from writer Derek Landy, penciler Greg Land, inker Jay Leisten, colorist Frank D'Armata and letterer VC's Cory Petit. In a preview of the issue provided by Marvel, Doctor Doom is seen yelling, "Avengers Assemble!" while he's holding both Mjolnir and Captain America's shield. Behind Doom are She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters, Iron Man/Tony Stark and Black Panther/T'Challa, all of whom are happy to rush into battle alongside the former villain.
The preview continues to reveal, however, that this incarnation of the Avengers is fighting Doctor Doom -- that being a variant who calls himself the "one true Doom." The Avengers' Doom seeming disagrees, as he tells his other version, "If you are the true Victor Von Doom, then everything I have worked towarfd my entire life has been for nothing. The lessons I've learned, the knowledge I've sought, the truths I've glimpsed -- I would rather they turn to ash then be warped by one such as you." Following a confrontation, the Avengers decide to retreat from the battle. "The end is coming," the evil version of Doom menacingly narrates as they do so.
What Is Marvel's All-Out Avengers Series?
All-Out Avengers is a new Marvel series specifically designed to throw readers right into the action from the very first page with little to no set-up. "This is basically that feeling that readers of a certain age have of walking into a corner store as a kid and picking up whatever comic was on the rack," Landy previously explained of the series. "Invariably it landed you in the middle of a story. We didn’t have the option to back order, we didn’t have comic shops. You had to wait until you were a grownup and they invented Marvel Unlimited so you could find out how that story started."
The synopsis for All-Out Avengers #2 reads, "The Avengers are on their knees, in chains and at the mercy of Doctor Doom. Their only hope lies in the one man with the strength, honor and sheer decency to possibly stand against the oncoming darkness: the hero the world knows as...Doctor Doom? Plunge into the action from page one and hold on for dear life, gentle reader — this tale doesn’t let up for a moment!"
All-Out Avengers #2 features cover art by Land and D'Armata and variant cover art by Netease, Peach Momoko, Ryan Stegman and Romulo Fajardo Jr. The issue goes on sale Oct. 12 from Marvel Comics.
