Doctor Doom famously once said, “Doom needs no one.” Yet that doesn’t mean the Fantastic Four’s archenemy isn’t open to a little romance. With Doom slated to marry his herald Victorious in June’s Fantastic Four #33, it seems like just the right time to explore his love life, which has often been as complex as the man himself.

Time travel, prophetic visions, and reality warping are just some of the unorthodox ways through which Victor von Doom has found love— not to mention his highly diabolical schemes. His romances have rarely lasted, but they’d all make for noteworthy entries in the Books of Doom.

10 Had A Son With The Enchantress In Another Reality

Doctor Doom and his son, Vincent, in What If #114

In Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars #5 by Jim Shooter, Bob Layton, and John Beatty, the Enchantress offered to court Doom and heal his face while they worked together to escape Battleworld. Doom refused, but given more time, would he have reconsidered?

What If #114 by Jay Faerber, Gregg Schigiel, and Jose Marzan Jr. explored a universe where no one had left Battleworld. The Enchantress ended up having two children: One with Thor and another with Doom. The latter child, Vincent, had inherited his parents’ cruelty and sorcery, along with Doom’s scientific genius. By Vincent’s teenage years, the Enchantress had vanished, possibly killed by Doom himself.

9 Pretended To Marry The Invisible Woman (As He Was Actually Reed Richards)

Reed Richards (as Doctor Doom), the Invisible Woman and the Thing

Mister Fantastic and Doctor Doom’s battle with the Dreaming Celestial had left Doom missing and Reed trapped in Doctor Doom’s armor. While working to free himself, Reed decided in the meantime to pretend he was Doom, so he could thwart the Latverian sovereign’s Counter-Earth allies from within.

To erase suspicions, Reed (as Doom) “remarried” Susan Richards so the Fantastic Four no longer appeared to pose a threat to Doom’s generals. Their real marriage grew strained, however, when the enchanted armor began making Reed’s behavior more Doom-like. The true Doctor Doom soon resurfaced, however, teaming with Sue to reclaim his armor.

8 Fell In Love With Fruzsina Markovich After Seeing Future Visions Of Them Married

Fruzsina Markovich rejects Doctor Doom's romantic interest in her

Doctor Doom again began questioning his plans for conquest when he started seeing visions of himself married to Fruzsina Markovich, a meteorologist who had invented a device to control the weather. In these visions, Doom’s face had also been cured, and he had decided to dedicate himself to improving the world without conquering it.

Growing increasingly convinced that this was the path awaiting him, Doom tracked down the modern day Fruzsina, explaining the visions he had seen. Yet Markovich flat out rejected Doom, explaining that the despot had imprisoned Fruzsina’s journalist father when she was a teenager.

7 Nearly Had A Child With Amara Perera

Victor von Doom and Amara Perera in Infamous Iron Man #2

After the events of 2015’s Secret Wars, Victor temporarily reformed his evil ways. He began helping Iron Man, at one point meeting Amara Perera, a biophysicist and Tony Stark’s then-love interest. Victor provided Perera with a laboratory and funding for her research.

When Tony became comatose, Doom “replaced” him as Iron Man. He frequently visited Amara, who grew frustrated by the chaos his visits created. Yet she also began caring for him, eventually becoming pregnant with his child. Though Amara rejected Victor’s help in even financially providing for their offspring, she later privately admitted she’d fallen in love with him. Sadly, their child did not reach term.

6 Had A Mutual Attraction With Storm (But Might Have Been A Doombot)

Storm and Doctor Doom dining together

Ororo Munroe, aka X-Men team leader Storm, had accepted Doctor Doom’s dinner invitation to distract him while the X-Men rescued Arcade, whom Doom had kidnapped. Yet Storm and Doom found themselves taken with each other. Regardless, Doom stuck to his plan, imprisoning the X-Men in deadly, high-tech enclosures and transmuting Ororo's body to chrome. Storm responded to Doom’s betrayal with rage and weather attacks, but the two later made peace.

Whether the Storm had met the real Doom or a Doombot is unclear. While Fantastic Four #258 by John Byrne affirmed the latter, Loki: Agent of Asgard #6 by Al Ewing and Jorge Coelho called that reveal into question.

5 Nearly Married Scarlet Witch For Her Power But Actually Fell In Love With Her

Doctor Doom and the Scarlet Witch

When Wanda Maximoff sought Doctor Doom’s help in resurrecting her children, the two summoned the power of the Life Force. Unfortunately, the Life Force possessed Wanda, causing her to attack the Avengers and depower most mutants.

Doom later found Wanda amnesiac and took her to Latveria. The two became lovers, remaining so even when Wanda’s memories returned. Yet Doom promptly ended the relationship after the Life Force accidentally entered his body and he proved unable to handle its power. Doom claimed he had only been interested in exploiting Wanda’s powers as a Nexus being, though his sincerity seemed questionable.

4 Dated Morgan Le Fay In Medieval Times

Doctor Doom and Morgan le Fay

Doom first met the enchantress Morgan le Fay in the landmark Iron Man #150 by David Michelinie, John Romita Jr. and Bob Layton, when he and Iron Man had inadvertently travelled back to the Middle Ages. Doom sought to learn sorcery from le Fay he could use to rescue his mother’s soul from Mephisto. Morgan agreed, in exchange for Doom’s help in destroying King Arthur.

While King Arthur and Iron Man stopped them, Doom continued visiting Morgan in the past for her teachings, leading to an affair. Morgan later fought Doom in the present, believing he’d used her. The two have since reconciled.

3 Remade & Married the Invisible Woman After Creating A New Battleworld

God Emperor Doom surrounded by subservient heroes in Marvel Comics

Mister Fantastic was devastated when his fellow Fantastic Four members and children perished with what was left of Marvel’s multiverse in 2015’s Secret Wars. Yet with power stolen from the Beyonders themselves, Doom retooled the remains of the multiverse into a new version of Battleworld from the original Secret Wars series.

In the process, Doom also created new incarnations of the Fantastic Four and the Future Foundation, with the Invisible Woman becoming his wife and Franklin and Valeria their children. Whether Doom made Reed’s family his own out of a desire for companionship or out of petty revenge against his arch-foe was never revealed.

2 Fell In Love With Fellow Latverian Valeria, Then Turned Her Skin Into Armor

Marvel Comics' Doctor Doom in a face mask approaching Valeria, his first love

Valeria and Doom had been an item since childhood, but broke up when Victor claimed to no longer feel love. Years later, Doom rescued Valeria from Diablo and attempted to rekindle their relationship, but Valeria rejected him. Regardless, Doom brought Valeria to his castle, seeking to change her mind. While Valeria still disapproved of his ways and thwarted his plans to control Bruce Banner, she and Doom still showed feelings for one another.

Valeria eventually met a gruesome end when Doom sacrificed her to the Haazareth Three in exchange for great power, morphing her flesh into his new mystical battlesuit.

1 Married Valeria When The Scarlet Witch Changed Reality

Valeria and Doctor Doom in House of M: Fantastic Four

When Wanda Maximoff transformed the world in House of M, many characters got what they always wanted. In Doctor Doom’s case, his mother Cynthia lived again, while his hated enemy Reed Richards perished in the shuttle flight that created the Fantastic Four. Instead, Doctor Doom led the team, which he called the Fearsome Four.

Among its members was his first love Valeria, who had gained telekinetic powers and called herself the Invincible Woman— a clear subversion of Susan Richards’ Invisible Woman identity. Valeria and Doom were happily married and raising Doom’s ward Kristoff Vernard, who had become the Inhuman Torch.
